Awardee Support

Funding is only part of the award. From kickoff to closeout, every team works alongside a dedicated Y-BIO liaison and a network built to help their technology take its next step.

Four phases of support

Every award follows a clear path from kickoff to closeout. Your Y-BIO liaison is your main point of contact throughout, coordinating resources and helping your team stay on track.

PHASE 01

Onboarding, alignment and kickoff

Goal: a shared definition of success.
  • A kickoff meeting to review the award agreement, projected timeline and key contacts for every party.
  • An overview of available resources, including templates, FAQs and the people to call.
  • A review of current intellectual property and anticipated filings.
  • A baseline assessment of past performance, immediate needs and the current project.
  • Clear expectations, end-point objectives and potential next steps beyond this funding.
PHASE 02

Stewardship and monitoring

Goal: support and collaboration that keep the project moving.
  • A disbursement schedule with upfront funding and milestone payments.
  • Quarterly status reports, informal check-ins and site visits from Y-BIO.
  • Help meeting compliance and reporting expectations.
  • Ongoing intellectual property development, including identifying collaborators, needs and gaps.
  • A clear process for requesting budget reallocations or milestone changes when the science calls for it.

Growing and sustaining the work

PHASE 03

Networking and community

Goal: connect teams with the people and skills that speed commercialization.
  • Webinars and workshops, including business plan and pitch development.
  • Mentorship from alumni, industry leaders and key opinion leaders in your field.
  • Help defining longer-term strategy and fundraising needs.
  • Opportunities to present your work to Y-BIO donors and partners.
PHASE 04

Exit and sustainability

Goal: impact that lasts beyond the award period.
  • Turning your results into a clear story of impact and advances to the field.
  • Setting new milestones for future funding and development.
  • Defining the next gap and the funding it will require.
  • Exploring the right path for the technology, whether company formation, partnerships or licensing through technology transfer.
  • Sharing project results with the Y-BIO community.
